I am presently reading this collection of surrealist short stories. Each is less a story than an overview of a strange place and its even stranger people. There is no real character arch or developement, no clear ending or even beginning - just a description of the workings of a place that is gritty, perverse and unreal. It is really a wild ride and original work. There seems to be Freudian/subconscious themes for each story, sometimes I think I can see the dark bubbling of the Id working in the story and can understand its point, others time not so much - but that is often the nature of this type of work.
I must admit after reading a half dozen or so of her stories, they become a bit repetitive. Because there is no real story, just a description (often gross in details and always wildly surreal) the style becomes repetitive. Still, an enjoyable read.
