Violent end to Sephora free give away
Sephora (an American beauty retailer) opened their second store in Stratford Westfield last Wednesday.
Since then, they have been giving away 100 free goodie bags to the first 100 customers every day, 500 on the first day.
After 7 hours, arriving at 2am, all semblance of civility and basic human nature disappeared after a false alarm caused the ~500 people to descend into a mob. Barriers pushed over, potential crushes,
All for security to do nothing and appease the
crowd with promises that it would be sorted. Now that the original order of the sacred British queue in tatters
Final result, original security guards knocked off, nothing against them, it was a difficult situation.
After much thinking and changing of minds, the event staff finally decided that the best way would be random selection. Rove amongst the crowd (mob) and hand out at random.
Queue (lol) them being swarmed, scratched, begged for one.
And to top it all off, a physical fight breaking out over one of the wristbands.
