What do authors think when their works become set texts for study in school

Im just looking at the set texts published by exam boards for French and i am just wondering what authors think when a book, play or film they produce is a set text that children/students will be examined on. I think most kids are forced to read these works of literature and a lot get annoyed and put off literature by the whole examination process i.e.being forced to memorise lines passages and quotes so that they can be used to answer an exam questions. I assume most people write literature for it to be enjoyed but a lot of people get put off literature after being forced to read a particular work so what do authors think of this

I keep turning that over. Becoming a set text is a strange kind of success. The work gets read for years, sometimes decades, but a lot of those readers meet it as an obligation and walk away annoyed. I think plenty of authors would take the longevity and still wince at the idea of their pages being reduced to exam points. The interesting ones are the books that survive that treatment and still feel like they have a pulse. #entertainment
