Somehow scored a job in Germany!! Super excited!
A bit of background: I'm 25, from Puerto Rico and have lived in the US for twelve years. For the longest time I have wanted to move abroad and see what the world has to offer, for which I majored in modern languages (German and Italian) in uni. Never in a million years would I have thought I'd get a job im wunderschönen Deutschland but miraculously, despite being a non-EU citizen, I did.

I had received a job offer in Italy, which had shocked me enough at the time, which I accepted, but I had to return to PR due to family reasons and wound up having to back out. It just so happened that while I was there, I remembered a job post looking for English-speaking teacher assistants (as opposed to proper teachers) I had found a couple of months ago, so I figured I should try it out.

I applied to just one school, in a relatively small city in eastern Germany. That was the only job I applied for there, and I got an interview about two hours after the initial CV/cover letter email I sent out. The job had specifically said they wanted people interested in learning German, so the interview was mostly carried out in German. Five days later, I got the offer, and last week, we began the visa proceedings.

I am soooo grateful to the school I'll be working at, as well as to the American who happened to be working there, and decided to help me out when she saw my application. The school already had experience with sponsoring people for work visas, so she encouraged them to give me a chance. Weil mir diese ganze Situation noch unglaublich scheint, freue ich mich seeeeehr darauf. Vielen Dank an die Schule, ans US-amerikanische Mädchen, und ans Leben für diese Möglichkeit. Ich werde mein Bestes geben!!!!
