El Actor - Pablo Picasso 1905 (he was 23 yrs old) (note prompter's hand with script) Interesting history. Picasso couldn't afford new materials, this was painted on a used canvas with an unknown landscape on the backside. It was sold in 1938 by the Leffmanns who used the proceeds to flee Nazi Germany for Brazil. Later, heiress to the Chrysler auto company purchased it for $22.500 and donated it to the Met in New York in 1952. Valued at $100 million in 2010, it was damaged that same year when an art student tripped and fell into the painting causing a 6" (15 cm) rip in the lower corner.

It's crazy, Picasso couldn't even afford materials, and today you can buy your own island with proceeds from just one of his paintings. I wonder what Picasso would have to say about NFT's and the values attached to some of them.

“When art critics get together they talk about Form and Structure and Meaning. When artists get together they talk about where you can buy cheap turpentine.”
