Don’t bet on anyone’s loyalty—except a dog’s. I love that silent loyalty in them, that devotion which asks for nothing in return. You don’t exchange words with a dog, so there is no lying between you—no hypocrisy, no misunderstandings, no empty promises, and no betrayal. To a dog, a person is a "master," even if he is homeless and without shelter; the dog remains his companion on the streets, loyal for a lifetime—regardless of whether the master is handsome or ugly, young or old, wealthy or destitute. Can you guarantee such qualities in those closest to you?
