The quote is from the article. So they jacked the signal around after running through the banana to increase the level to match the cables. This is why no difference was audible. The headline is very misleading.

There are million-dollar sets of speakers etc. Just stupid. And some people are so stupid they pay it. Even mid-level equipment prices have gotten stupid. Man used to be able to build a good audio system for under 500.
