This is a pink Lotus flower which is edible and is used when eating Miang Kham. The name miang kham translates to 'one bite wrap'. The word miang refers to food wrapped in leaves, or in our case a petal, and kham ('a bite'). It was introduced to the Siamese court of King Rama V by Princess Dara Rasmi, who was a princess of Chiang Mai (where I currently live). She was the daughter of King Inthawichayanon of Chiang Mai and Queen Thip Keson of Chiang Mai descended from the Chet Ton Dynasty. She was one of the princess consorts of Chulalongkorn, King Rama V of Siam (later Thailand) and gave birth to one daughter. Siam was the central kingdom Chiangmai was a kingdom north of Siam and paid tribute to Siam. Later The north, northeast, central and southern areas combined to form what today is the country of Thailand.
So a flower that is a food and is a part of the history of nations.
