I just made it to part 2 of the book. It’s very good and Morrison is clearly a very talented writer. However; I’m constantly getting confused about the timeline. I think I have it all straight but I’m regularly having to stop and remind myself of the order of events to make sure I have it right. When Sethe escaped, when Beloved was born, when Paul D was in Georgia, when stamp paid told Paul D about what Sethe did to beloved, etc etc.
Has this happened to anyone else? It’s getting a little frustrating being fed these very vague references to what happened earlier and then having to wait a couple chapters to fill in the blanks. Like I said, I really enjoy the book but I find myself wondering if Morrison is being opaque sometimes just to make it more “literary” and not because it adds to the story. Tell me I’m not alone here! #entertainment
