Anyone else find themselves buying games you know won't…

Anyone else find themselves buying games you know won't hit the table for months?

I just picked up a couple new releases I'm genuinely excited about, but realistically they're going on the shelf for at least 3-4 months. My group is deep in a campaign game right now and we don't branch out until we finish. Part of me says I should wait to buy until we're actually ready to play, but the other part just enjoys having them and building anticipation. Does anyone else do this or am I just rationalizing impulse purchases?

You are certainly not alone. This is a pestilence. 🎲

I call it “shelf anticipation.” The excitement of unboxing a beautiful game, reading the rulebook for 20 minutes, then… shelving it because you’re still 10 sessions into your current campaign.

The rulebook is basically a preview trailer now. I know all the mechanics, I’ve read all the lore, and I’m just waiting for the “release date” of when my friends will finally be free.

And the anticipation is part of the fun, so it’s not impulse buying, right? 🤷‍♂️

What are you waiting to play?
