A federal judge in Washington has postponed the trial of former Libyan intelligence official Abu Agila Mohammad Mas'ud Kheir Al-Marimi after prosecutors disclosed new evidence for his defence to review. ⚖️ Jury selection had been due to begin on 26 August.
Mas'ud is charged with making the bomb that destroyed Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, in 1988. The attack killed 270 people, including 259 passengers and crew and 11 people on the ground.
Judge Dabney Friedrich did not disclose the nature of the material. Her order cited the case's complexity and the defence's need to determine how best to respond.
The trial would be the first in the United States over the bombing. A status hearing is scheduled for 1 September; the postponement does not dismiss the charges or decide their merits. ✈️
