💡 SCIENCE BEHIND THE ILLUSION:
Discovered by Baingio Pinna in 1987, a dark border paired with an adjacent lighter colored contour causes the lighter hue to 'bleed' inward, tricking cortical area V4 into perceiving a soft uniform wash across a pure white surface.
