I've just completed reading Khaled Al Khamissi's "Taxi". On top of finding it extremely funny, I felt a sense of suffocation and helplessness throughout the book. As it is being set in 2006 and thus precedes the arab spring, I was wondering if the state of things is similar to what's experienced by the population today in Egypt or other middle eastern / North African countries. Is it worse? Better?
