A Manner Original Neapolitaner is one of the best-known icons of Austrian confectionery, with a history and recipe that have remained almost unchanged since 1898.
History and origins
Founded: Josef Manner I. created the wafer that became known as the "Neapolitan Wafer No. 239" in 1898.
Origin of name: The adjective βNeapolitanβ refers to the hazelnuts imported from the Naples area at the time, which were the essential ingredient of the cream.
Trademark: The St. Stephen's Cathedral (Stephansdom) on the packaging symbolizes the city of Vienna and the origin of the brand.
Characteristics and composition
The original version consists of five layers of crispy wafers and four layers of hazelnut-cocoa cream.
Ingredients: Sugar, wheat flour, vegetable fats (coconut, palm), hazelnuts (12% in the cream), low-fat cocoa powder, raising agent (sodium bicarbonate), salt, emulsifier (soy lecithin) and natural flavors.
Exemption: The original recipe is vegan , egg-free and lactose-free (although it may contain traces of dairy due to the manufacturing process).
Nutritional value (in 100g): Approximately 485 kcal energy, 22g fat, 65g carbohydrates (of which 46g sugar) and 5.6g protein.
