Bad frugal decision

I’m a 6 figures professional but I have a very strong frugal mentality. I’m traveling, and of course I got the day pass for unlimited train/bus rides for only a few bucks per day.

I missed a train, and the next one would come in like 40 min. Uber to my destination would be like 10 bucks, or there’s a bus coming in about 10 min a few blocks away.

This neighborhood is a bit rough around the edges, and it’s my very first time in this city, so I booked the Airbnb without exactly knowing how the area was like. I decided to go for the bus, and there was not even a proper stop, it was just a sign and kinda dark, with no foot traffic whatsoever.

I get there and I realize all I have (good savings, good salary, no debt), and that I decided to be there for saving 10 bucks or waiting 40 min at the train stop which was well lit and safe. I regretted immensely… thankfully the bus did show up and nothing bad happened.

I decided to share this experience so that other people don’t risk their safety for being overly frugal.

TLDR: had a day pass for public transportation, avoided taking a $10 Uber for waiting at an unsafe, dark bus stop by myself. I really regret that. Think twice and don’t risk safety. Nothing bad happened thankfully

Edit - hateful comments, are y’all ok? if you need therapy on the budget, seek out some social service in your city or have some friends in your life… this post was well written and harms absolutely no one. I posted as a self reflection and to possibly help others to avoid doing the same. Where’s your hate coming from? Yikes
