The World Meteorological Organization says the established…

The World Meteorological Organization says the established El Niño is expected to intensify into a very strong event, raising the risk of drought, flooding and extreme heat into 2027. 🌊

The reported average of 14 forecast models puts the central-Pacific temperature anomaly near 4°C by November—well above the +0.5°C threshold used to classify El Niño.

El Niño is the warm phase of the Pacific’s coupled ocean–atmosphere cycle. It changes the odds of broad seasonal weather patterns, but it cannot by itself determine whether a particular disaster will occur in a particular place.

The World Food Programme has warned that the event could push about 50 million people into acute hunger, on top of 225 million people already facing acute food insecurity in 45 countries. 🌾

Regional forecasters and emergency agencies will use the evolving Pacific observations and WMO outlooks to refine local seasonal warnings and preparedness plans.
