📚 Explore how Nine Inch Nails transformed industrial rock into a sprawling, atmospheric double album with The Fragile.
The Fragile is the third studio album by Nine Inch Nails, released on September 21, 1999. Conceived and principally written by Trent Reznor, it is a two-disc industrial rock album distinguished by its unusually expansive production, shifts between abrasive and atmospheric passages, and themes of psychological collapse, isolation, grief, and attempted recovery. The album followed the commercially successful The Downward Spiral (1994) after a prolonged recording period at Nothing Studios in New Orleans. It debuted at number one in the United States and became one of Nine Inch Nails’ most ambitious and influential releases.
