I confessed to my father that I came out as a bisexual man and...
(17M) I'll start from the beginning. For almost my entire life, I've been aware of my attraction to both women and men (starting around age 7 or 8), and I never had the confidence to confess it to my parents about it until this year, when I revealed it to my mother and grandmother at a small gathering we had in the house. My mother revealed to me that she had been with other women for a while, but that God had cured her of that. However! She never made me feel less than. On the contrary, she showed me very sincere love and told me to be happy. But not before warning me about the problems of belonging to a community like this in my country (I'm from the Dominican Republic, and this is a super conservative and Catholic/Christian country) She also told me that the people in this community suffered a lot, but she accepted me for who I am. She gave me her support and a hug. Somehow, she convinced my hyper-religious grandmother (a Seventh-day Adventist and Christian for over 40 years) that it wasn't the end of the world and that it was okay, that she would accept me for who I am. more than because of my gender.
My mother is a woman who believes in God and has had immense experience, and my grandmother is a woman who raised all generations of her family in the Adventist church. Of course my grandmother gets uncomfortable when I mention it, but she has never stopped showing that she loves me.
But my father... My mother told him about it without my consent because he needed to know. After all, he's my father! But he didn't accept it. What he said was that he was confused, that I was too young to understand what I wanted, and that he'll never accept me.Before going any further, he is a very religious man. Although he is not a member of the Church, he is very God-fearing. Continuing with the topic, after that we didn't speak for a while. I went to his house yesterday... And when we were alone I asked him if he loved me, to which he began to tell me that people who join the community suffer a lot. Most people who have same-sex relationships end up confused and suffering because they are never sought out for love, but for money, only to then be with another woman. That people are full of prejudices and that I am just confused, that I should pray for God to "cure" me of that, because he fathered a man, not a woman. He told me that I was just confused (again) and that he prays for me. Of course, I agreed to everything he said since I didn't want to argue, not with him, but after that, he also expressed that he loved me.
After all this, I can only say that I really don't care if they're for or against my identity, I just care that my parents genuinely love me and that's enough for me. Thanks for reading all this. I needed to get that out of my chest. And well, what's y'all advice about this. #lifestyle source
