🚆 Virgin Trains has received pre-approval for track access to run up to 20 daily return services through the Channel Tunnel between London and Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam from 2030, The Guardian reported.

The access agreement is scheduled to run from 1 October 2030 to 31 December 2040. It follows the Office of Rail and Road’s October 2025 decision approving Virgin’s access to Temple Mills International depot, a key maintenance facility for Channel Tunnel trains.

Eurostar has been the only international passenger operator in the tunnel since services began in 1994. Virgin says its project involves £700 million of investment and about 400 UK jobs; the proposed services would use the same continental destinations as Eurostar. ⚖️

The approval is not an immediate service launch. Virgin must still obtain access to other rail networks and secure safety approvals from British and European regulators before trains can operate.
