My current reading list that leads towards Italian literature
For lovers of Italian literature and beyond:
Just looking to share this with you all, it's my current reading list that is organized chronologically from the Middle Ages to today. There is a heavy focus on Italian literature to capitalize on my mastery of the language, in which I've chosen to read all Italian texts in the original language, while peppering in a fair share of English language texts, and a handful of other-language texts.
There are two main reasons I've ideated this list: one is to fill in the gaps missing after not getting a standard Italian lyceum education in literature and to cover the "Great Italian Novels" (I grew up in the US with a standard American high school education in literature, but I've chosen great English texts to balance out the reading as well), and two, to prepare for additional cultural education re: Italy for the purpose of writing a novel set in that country. The Divine Comedy and The Betrothed aren't on the list because I've covered them already. I've just finished Il piacere (Pleasure) by D'Annunzio. At the end of the list, there is some random contemporary literature to close out the selection. Let me know what you think!
