I am 27 years old and this is the first time in my life I have used 'Growl' or 'Leer'.
as a kid I thought they were useless moves that didn't attack anything so I'd never use them, and replace them with the first new attack I got.
today happened totally accidentally in Violet where I used Leer. not sure why, maybe Geodudes defense was too high, but I used Leer. and then thought to myself....and literally gasped, telling myself '....is....is this the first time....ive ever lowered a Pokémon's defense? yes...yes it is." so I then used growl immediately after. I see the appeal I guess but those moves have never been for me. I'm just surprised it took me all these years to ACCIDENTALLY press the button
