Australia’s Reserve Bank has raised its cash-rate target…

Australia’s Reserve Bank has raised its cash-rate target by 25 basis points to 4.6%, its highest level since 2011. 📈 The decision was unanimous and marked the fourth increase of 2026.

The bank said inflation had exceeded its expectations. It cited higher fuel costs, global price pressures and businesses’ pricing intentions, and said further increases remained possible if needed to return inflation to target.

The cash rate is the benchmark that influences lending and deposit rates. ABC News estimated that, if passed on in full, a 25-basis-point rise would add about A$91 a month to repayments on a A$600,000 mortgage.

Markets reacted with a higher Australian dollar and bond yields, while the S&P/ASX 200 fell. 💳 The RBA’s governor, Michele Bullock, was due to explain the decision at a media conference.
