I miss the old Coldplay
I know it’s commonplace to hate on Coldplay - and some of the hate is fairly justified - but man, they have made some amazing music in the past.
To me, Parachutes and A Rush of Blood to the Head are incredible albums that are up there as the best of the 2000s. Their musicianship in those albums was on another level. I genuinely think there’s not a single weak song in either of those albums, and some of them are certified classics (Yellow, The Scientist, Clocks etc)
X&Y was ok, but it was a bit more generic as they were attempting to go for much grander mainstream appeal. Viva la Vida was a step in the right direction and is probably their most *interesting* album musically. I was hoping they’d explore more in this area but unfortunately this is when they kind of went all the way into crappy, ultra-generic radio pop. There have been a few good songs here and there but most of their stuff these days sounds so bland and lacking in personality.
I guess this is what they want to do now - and that’s perfectly ok, since it’s their right as an artist. I just miss how good their music used to be.
