Hi all! Im currently new to the 3D printing world and am looking to create a project and am a little unsure of how to go about it. I am involved in a medical doctoral program and would love to create a functional resource which students can use to learn and engage with. I don’t have any experience creating STL files, I’m more of the anatomy expert in this case. My school offers 3D printing services for students and faculty, in which I have utilized and had great success with files already made. But I’m looking to go about creating something new that I’m not sure has been done.
I want to create a scapula with rotator cuff muscles that actually “move”. So for example, when you move the humerus, you can see a the muscles attached on the scapula and humerus lengthening and shortening. I will attach a static example of what I would want this to look like, however the ultimate goal is for this to be a dynamic model.
Hypothetically, how would one go about this? I know there are some good current models for the bones, but how would one create the muscles and attach them? I thought about printing a mold of each muscle and using some thermoplastics to create the muscles and then trying to attach them afterwards? Obviously, there are some issues with ensuring everything is to scale…
I’m also not opposed to making the muscles through a representative means, such as using elastic or something of that nature to represent the line of pull for each muscle. I know everyone in this world is so creative and innovative so I’m hoping to find some good ideas!
