Equine-sized treadmill
I’m not suicidal in the traditional sense of the word but I don’t agree with America’s idealized capitalistic society. I don’t think exploitation of labor is conducive with peace and a sufficient qualify of life. Perhaps I’m lazy. Perhaps I think about things on a deeper level than the average person. Maybe I’m both. What doesn’t sit right with me is going to a job for 8 hours per day 5 days a week then the weekend rolls around and you’re wondering where your time went. Compound that by 40 years and before you know it, you blink and the world has passed you by. It sounds like a deeply depressing way to go about this unique gift of life we’ve all been presented with. I understand there’s still opportunity to make the most of it. We can spend our time outside of work building and curating an environment we can enjoy. Although, the time given to do so is very limited and conversely requires a substantial amount of time. I think a lot of people in the US are lying to themselves. They brag about being a “workaholic”, boast about their worldly possessions, and look at those lower on the totem pole with disdain. I’m sure if we dove deeper it would reveal a severe lack of true passion and drive. Consumerism is the carrot at the end of a stick and we are the horses running in place on an equine-sized treadmill. Not meant to get ahead but to forever be indebted to people who seldom have our best interests.
