I work at a food pantry and get all sorts of things donated. Sometimes they’re kinda heartbreaking.
We usually get donations of clothes and household items. This was mixed into a trash bag of random things that looked like someone had emptied an entire drawer into it.
The book was one of those “Moments of Our Relationship” journals, and this was the only page that had been filled out. There were also a couple of photos of probably the same guy smiling while holding a/his baby.
Maybe it was an accident. Maybe it wasn’t. Either way, finding something this personal in a donation pile is heartbreaking. No matter what the story is, it feels like a piece of someone’s life got thrown away.
