Are you really overthinking, or are you searching for certainty?
I was asked today how to get out of your head.
I asked what that meant.
The answer was simple. Overthinking.
I have learned that most overthinking is not really about needing more information. It is about wanting more certainty.
You keep running the situation through your mind because you believe that somewhere in all that thinking is an answer that will guarantee everything turns out the way you want.
You do not want to make the wrong decision. You do not want to fail. You do not want to disappoint someone. So you think a little more. Then a little more.
But eventually thinking stops being productive and becomes interference.
The problem is not that you care too much. The problem is believing that enough thought can remove uncertainty from life.
It cannot.
You can prepare. You can learn. You can make the best decision available to you. You can influence what happens next through your actions. But you cannot guarantee the result.
That is where acceptance becomes powerful.
Sometimes getting out of your head does not mean stopping your thoughts. It means loosening your grip on needing to know what happens next.
Ask yourself one question today.
Is there something I can actually do about this right now?
If there is, take action.
If there is not, experience this moment instead of mentally living through a future that has not happened.
Uncertainty is not something you have to defeat before you can move forward.
Sometimes moving forward is how you learn to live with it.
