Alternative training by to ChessBruh?

First of all, I’m a chess n00b, around 600-700 on chess.com .

I’ve been watching chessbruh’s habits series, and although I really enjoy them and try and apply the basic principles per rating level, I swear to god there’s no way I’m getting matched up with people like he does on his videos.

I’ve seen many posts here about something similar (on all levels), so I’m here to ask:

What’s the best way to learn as a \~650 who seemingly comes up against 800+ rated players?

I was always of the understanding that you spend your first 1000 basically learning the principles etc, then somewhere around 1000-1250, you’ll probably want to start learning an opening properly.

Is it worth skipping the next 400 of “principles” practise and jumping straight in to an opening?

Or is this slog the “earn your stripes” process?
