Items from the past can have a strong sentimental value in the present. Growing up with a family friend who experienced the latter part of the past century, I remember how we shared the excitement of every new tech gadget that came out. It started with the humble Walkman, which seemed like a miracle to me. Suddenly, I could take my music with me everywhere I went. I spent hours curating the perfect mixtapes to listen to on long car rides or during study breaks.

But the Walkman was just the beginning. When the personal computer became more accessible, and my family got our first one. It was a bulky machine with a green-and-black screen and a floppy disk drive, but I was thrilled to finally have access to simple action games. I spent countless afternoons navigating pixelated landscapes and endless moving icons.

Then came the boombox, a popular status symbol for children in that period. I begged my parents for one for my birthday, and they finally caved. I strutted down the street with my oversized boombox on my shoulder, blasting my favorite tapes and soundtracks. It was a time when music was always a communal experience, and I loved sharing my favorite tunes with friends.

As time passed, the tech gadgets got more advanced. My first cellphone was a very thick tech device with a tiny screen and monophonic ringtones. I thought it was the coolest thing ever to be able to call my friends from anywhere, but looking back, it's hard to imagine how we ever survived without smartphones that can do everything from take photos to order food.

In the era of digital tech, I look back on those early gadgets with nostalgia and appreciation for how far we've come. As much as I love the conveniences that the modern smartphone and laptop have brought us, there's something special about the simplicity and charm of a world where a Walkman or a clunky computer was enough to make me feel like I was living in the future.

What would be some of your experiences with technologies of the past? Do you have a particular device that you hold dear to yourself until the present day? Also, if you could have one tech device from your favorite time period, what would it be?
