DIY roof fan

I am building out a Delica L400 with the crystalite roof. The roof of this van does not have enough space between the glass roof panels to fit a 1lstamdard 14x14 roof fan or even some of the smaller 11x11 ones. I've got 9in max and I want to mount one at the front of my van where I will cook in the winter and one at the back where I will sleep.

I have been looking at the maxxfan dome fans since those are just over 6in mounting.

I have seen however that those can get noisy after a few months and the motors burn out a lot.

So, I got an idea to use a mushroom vent like the one below which should keep rain out.

And a pc fan like the one below on a pmw controller to adjust speed.

I figure this will be quieter, and more reliable than the maxxfan option and I will also be able to adjust the speed of the fans.

Has anyone done something like this and how did it go?

Thanks.
