Why I feel a changed perception of space after a road trip?
Something weird is happening to me. My gf and I just got back from a 2-week vacation. It was a 4,000-mile road trip where we spent 10 days sleeping in my car, mixed with 4 nights in hotels.
Two days ago, we arrived at my girlfriend’s parents' house, and something immediately felt off. The interior of the house felt oddly larger and emptier than I remembered. I don't know the place super well, so I figured I was just misremembering the layout.
But now I’m back in my own apartment, and I’m having the exact same bizarre sensation: the space feels bigger, the walls look bare, and everything feels strangely open.
What’s going on? Is this a known psychological phenomenon, or could it be some kind of mental health issue? Or is it a glitch? #conversation source
