British actor and singer Tim Curry, whose defining role was Dr Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Show and its 1975 film adaptation, has died at 80. His manager and friend Marcia Hurwitz confirmed that he died at home in Los Angeles; no cause was disclosed. 🎭
Curry turned Frank-N-Furter from a stage character into a lasting cult-film icon by playing the role in the original London production, on Broadway and on screen. The role remained central to the audience-participation legacy of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
His career extended well beyond Rocky Horror. On stage, he earned three Tony nominations for Amadeus, My Favorite Year and Spamalot; on screen and television he was known for Legend, Clue and Pennywise in the 1990 miniseries It. 🎬
A major stroke in 2012 left Curry with mobility difficulties, but he continued selected voice work and appearances. He published his memoir, Vagabond, in 2025; tributes are expected to focus on both his cult-film legacy and his long stage career.
