🚀 NASA’s Artemis II crew—Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen—are scheduled to receive the Congressional Space Medal of Honor on 28 August.
The four astronauts completed a nearly 10-day lunar flyby in April, the first crewed trip to the Moon in more than half a century. Their spacecraft reached 252,756 miles from Earth, setting a new distance record for humans in space. 🌕
The award is made by the US president on the recommendation of the NASA administrator for exceptionally meritorious efforts and contributions. NASA says the crew’s flight tested Orion’s life-support, handling, emergency and return systems.
The mission did not land on the Moon. Its successful splashdown off California instead completed a crewed test of the SLS–Orion transport and recovery system, while NASA prepares Artemis III for later lunar-surface operations.
