Why is it so hard for people to understand that tech products can last over 2 to 3 years?

I don't know why this is so foreign for so many people, because I've been using my current laptop for over 8 years now and many have told me it's old, you should upgrade it, etc.

But the thing is, it meets all my needs perfectly fine. I'm able to use Microsoft Office, browse the internet, play games (the games I play aren't demanding hardware wise), and just use it however I want in a servicable manner. While I admit that it's not the fastest thing in the world, it doesn't feel slow or unresponsive either.

This isn't even mentioning that my laptop continues to receive Windows 10 updates, so it's fine from a security and software perspective too, despite being over 8 years old.

You know what's even crazier than people telling me I should upgrade my laptop simply because it's old? They can't believe it when I say I don't really see myself upgrading anytime soon and will continue to use it however long it lasts. Even if it goes 10+ years.

I don't see how upgrading to a new laptop or buying a PC would change my quality or life, despite so many people saying "it just will". However, I do see it as blowing $1K+ for no good reason, when it could be used for other things such as paying multiple bills, having a good time out with friends, going towards my savings, investing, etc.
