The cart is a horse-drawn vehicle, originally a version of the cart developed in the village of Kocs in the 15th century. It was fast and relatively convenient thanks to its light and fine workmanship, which is why it spread throughout Europe.
It is one of the few Hungarian words that reached Western languages (English coach, German Kutsche, Catalan coché, Spanish coche, Italian cocchio, Flemish goetse, Polish kocz, Czech kočár, Slovak koč, kočiar, Ukrainian koč, Serbian кочије, Slovenian kočíja , Swedish kusk). And in the Caucasus region and Asia Minor, the light cart is called a "Magyar".
In Hungary, the boom in carriage production began in the middle of the 19th century. One of the very first Hungarian industrial pioneers was Jakab Kölber (1787–1843), a carriage manufacturer who had been producing carriages in Pest since 1813. His son, the famous carriage manufacturer Fülöp Kölber (1816-1902), knight of the Order of József Ferenc, owner and CEO of the "Kölber Brothers" company, continued to develop it after taking over his father's factory in 1843, and was able to strongly suppress foreign imports in Hungary.
