Ancient Evenings by Norman Mailer is crazy and I like it, thoughts on this book and Mailer?
I have been kinda obsessed with Mailer for a while and I finally got into Ancient Evenings, his epic novel set in The New Kingdom of Ancient Egypt. I am no Egypt expert but it seems like he at least did his homework here. I know its a fictional tale but the detail shows that he cared about making it feel like Ancient Egypt. I know some people hate Mailer because he was so overtly masculine and not always the most respectful fellow but I enjoy his point of view. I can feel the curiosity in his writings.
Anyone else read this book? Any Egyptian scholars out there? Any Mailer fans out there?
