I understand they don’t have cells, but that seems like a completely arbitrary criterion. I also get that they can’t reproduce outside of a host cell, but they *do* still reproduce. And lots of lifeforms are obligate parasites. I’m pretty sure there are even some bacteria like *Chlamydia* can only reproduce inside another cell.
I’m sure there are big differences between how *Chlamydia* reproduces and how viruses reproduce. But, why exclude things that very much behave like lifeforms rather than expanding the definition? #animals
