Towards the end of the book Joe reveals that he is an assassin sent to kill Abendsen, as Juliana starts to figure out he's not who he says he is. Why does he completely drop the pretense and still assume that she'll cooperate with him? Is this to highlight the Nazi's lack of understanding of humanity?
