novels, short stories, and poems. He is one of the rare authors capable of expressing human emotions and certain philosophical inquiries in a simple, everyday language. If he had belonged to a nation other than Turkey, he would probably be as widely recognized as Fyodor Dostoevsky.
In the novel I recommend to you, Sabahattin Ali explores the contradictions a person builds with the devil within, the inner monologues that reflect upon one’s life, and the “devil inside us” to which we attribute everything. I am sharing this with you in the hope that you will discover a truly remarkable new writer.
After finishing this, you may also read "Madonna in fur coat" (Kürk Mantolu Madonna) by the same author. It, too, represents a distinct and powerful dimension of Turkish literature.
