Obviously the entire visual processing chain is extremely complex, a lot happens in the brain, and a lot is probably not fully understood... If you have any good references for further reading I'd be curious, but I mostly just want an answer to this specific question. I'm imagining that, broadly, the 2d surface of the retina/spatial information is just mapped to different neurons within the nerve? Assuming that's correct, I could see color potentially being represented in different ways: maybe the pattern of firing of a single neuron, or different neurons for different colors? If different neurons, is there anything that distinguishes a red neuron from a green neuron? Is there something about how the entire chain grows together that allows the brain to distinguish? Is it just a learned association? Are these questions dumb for reasons that I don't realize? Thanks for any answers! #animals
