Your opinions on "The Fury" by Alex Michaelides

Hey folks, I wanted to drop this with you because I really want to know if its just me but I found it so strangely overwhelming and cartoonish to say the least.

1) the narrator is castrating with his interruptions; he interrupts always in the same way, excusing himself for "making it about himself". In addition, if you read the whole book: why does the narrator knows what happened to the other characters when he clearly wasnt there when things happened because he is a person, therefore, an unrreliable; which for anyones suprised, it is because for some reason he decided to hide some information that its reveal later in the second act (for those who read it, the treason of Jason and Kate to Lana).

In addition, he also drops some "writing resources" and reflexions that feel like a power fantasy from the author just to say: look how theatrical my writing is.

2) I got the idea of reconstructing the backstory of the characters through all the dump Elliot, the narrator, does about his therapy session but from my point of view it end ups half way there because, maybe, the voices of the characters and their actions, which end up weirdly similar between them because of all the substance abuse they do to cope with their lives. Speaking about the characters, is the author trying to laugh about famous people? I found Lana and Kate too cartoonish: the tantrum on the restaurant, Lana scheeming the trip as a way to uncover their affair, but acting completely normal and ignorant during act 1, which I get the point that "she is an actress and knows how to pretend" and her whole life works that way. I guess that I should focus more on the characters emotional needs to discover the motivation of their actions maybe...

If you read the book please share me your opinion, have a nice day!
