On the 6th day of his presidency, Saddam Hussein called in an emergency session of his own Party leaders. Calmly smoking a cigar, he read the names of 68 party leaders, accusing them of "treason." About 30 were executed, the rest sent to prison. The horrified survivors chanted "long live Saddam."
