Came home to my house in flames
One week ago I left my home to go get some forgotten items at the grocery store. My fiancé had put grease on the stove top to make French fries. He went outside to take out the trash and a neighbor waved him down to tell him something. Within 90 seconds flames were coming out the kitchen. He ran up the steps and opened the door and the backdraft lit the whole house on fire.
We had a faulty range on the stove we had just replaced a few days prior. It would get too hot to fast. He had the setting on “4” to be cautious anyway.
It was our cute little cabin in the woods. We just finished adding on to it 3 weeks ago.
Lessons learned: get insurance. We started the papers the week before. Obliviously we are totally screwed.
Get a fire safe box for any super important things to you.
I’ve learned people who have nothing, help more than anyone. They do the things no one else wants to help with.
Be thankful for tiny things we take for granted. I cried over finding a ponytail in my car the next day lol.
Take help when it’s offered. Pay it forward.
Red Cross does not give you vouchers for all these things people tell you. I am very grateful for the gift card with money they gave us.
The whole house burnt to the ground. We live in rural Louisiana and it was 30 minutes for a fire truck to arrive. His vehicle suffered pretty severe damage but we can fix it.
Be thankful for little things and love one another. ❤️
