Towers of Yoma

Over the last few weeks, I had the chance to playtest **Towers of Yoma** and I wanted to share a few quick impressions (the Gamefound campaign still has 5 days left). I apologize in advance for my mediocre English.

I was searching for a great Tower Defense (TD) - Game for a long time now. Back in the day, I loved trying out every Tower Defense map in Warcraft 3 with my friends and spent hundreds of hours playing the Genre.

Most board games are more like Hero-Defense-Games, as Character movement gives more flexibility and often gives you more tactical Options. With the few Tower-Defense board games that currently exist, I was missing always one mechanic: Maze-Building. I love placing towers in a creative and intelligent way to create a Labyrinth that forces Enemies to take longer Paths while beeing attacked by Towers.

This is exactly where Towers of Yoma comes into play. It is the first board game I have played that really gives you that aspect of Maze-Building. The game combines Tower-Defense with deckbuilding. Towers dont fire on their own, you have to activate them with your Cards. There isnt a huge variety of enemy types but that seems to be intentional by the Designers with the focus instead being on the different Tower abilities and actions.

Enemy Movement is controlled either through an App or an optional physical card deck (which isn't included in the base game i think).

I really enjoyed how all the Mechanics work together. You constantly discuss the state of the Game, who will kill which Enemy and what do we want to achieve this round. Even with a fairly long playtime (about 2 1/2 Hours with 3 Players for our first game) it never felt boring.

What are your thoughts on the Game? Has anyone else here had the Chance to playtest it through the developer's Discord server?
