Another beautiful place in Hungary: Baradla cave - Aggtelek
The Baradla cave, also known as the Aggteleki stalactite cave, is one of Hungary's most outstanding natural treasures, which was declared a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1995. A part of the 30 km long Baradla-Domica cave system also extends into Slovakia and has several entrances. The Aggtelek National Park organizes three permanent tours that can be visited in street clothes on a lighted section built with concrete sidewalks and stairs. The temperature in the cave is +10°C, so it is advisable to wear warm clothes and hiking shoes.
The most popular tour starts at the natural entrance to the cave in Aggtelek, at the base of the more than 50 m high rock wall. The 1 km route can be covered in approximately 1 hour. The path leads between hanging and standing stalactites, stalactite columns, stalactite flags, which have been given such imaginative names as Santa Claus, Tiger or Mother Tongue. One of the most exciting stations is the Concert Hall with excellent acoustics, the interesting thing about which is that it actually hosts concerts. In the Hall of Columns, 13 stalactite columns are named after the Arad martyrs, and you can also observe the Egri Minaret.
