Learning the trade secrets unlocks steeper discounts
I have always played the game of "find the clearance/discount" food at my local grocery store. I would frequently shop early in the mornings (so my kids could run around), and I would catch them marking down the produce or meat. Yet, about a 2-3 months ago I started to notice nothing was marked down. So after chatting up the meat department supervisor I learned that they shifted to marking down items starting at 11 AM. I have now shifted to grocery shopping to between 11:30 and 12:00 to try and capture as much of the savings as I can.
Questions for the crowd:
What are your top "timing" hacks as they relate to groceries? How do you feel about meat or produce that is nearing its "best by" date (the validity of this metric is up for debate )?
