Legend of Sleepy Hollow question
I reread the Legend of Sleepy Hollow short story after watching The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad ( I was on a Disney kick)
And as I finished reading the story, I got to the part I had forgotten the part where an older gentleman questions the narrator what the moral of the story was. The narrator describes the older gentleman as being somewhat imperious, but even tempered and even after the narrator explains what he believes the moral to be, the old man essentially scoffs and says the story is a bit too extravagant for his taste.
So, I’m theorizing… or perhaps wondering. Is the story implying the old man is Ichabod Crane, listening to a story from his youth, one that he didn’t think anyone knew about? The story does say that Ichabod left Sleepy Hollow after the incident and supposedly even became a politician (not that anyone in the small village believed those accounts, they are convinced he was spirited away by the Headless Horseman)
