Weird Situation with FFL after Moving to Free State Hello…

Weird Situation with FFL after Moving to Free State

Hello,

I moved from a ban state to a freedom state recently. For three years there's been a rifle I wanted that you could describe as niche (but also not that hard to find).

So after getting my local driver's license, I run down to a local gun shop and they say they could order the rifle for me off Gunbroker. Now, in the past, I have exclusively ordered off Gunbroker first and shipped to an FFL of my choice. But, I figured an FFL ordering from another FFL was pretty surefire and that the process would go just as smooth. They tell me the gun is ordered before I leave the premises.

For reference, I have never experienced waiting more than two weeks to receive a firearm, even if shipped across the United States. When I have had to mail certified check, I get it delivered to the seller within a few days.

So, I wait about a week-and-a-half and contact the local FFL- they imply the item will be shipping soon and that it takes around five days to arrive. Then, I follow up middle of the following week, they say not only has the item not shipped but they have not been able to reach the seller for communication on the sale (and that no payment has been delivered), who again they insist is an FFL (but will not name them) and is a few states north.

The following day I show up to the local FFL to discuss the problem and they maintain there is this communication issue. I ask them to cancel the transaction. Gun store clerk insists he has to talk to his boss first, but also wants to forestall me cancelling the transaction.

I get sketched out and have my bank reverse the credit card transaction later that day (I hate doing this btw). The following day, I inform the local FFL by email that I had lost confidence in the purchase and reversed the credit card transaction.

Now, the owner of the local FFL informs me by email that they've been very positively communicating with the FFL up north supplying the firearm, but that they mailed a certified check and it got lost. They also insist that because the FFL is in a soon-to-be ban state, they could have issues delivering inventory. Okay...

So I press them on the mail issue further. They say actually the check is going to a state way out west, not the state up north, hence why it's taking longer to deliver, but also that they may need to re-mail the check if this one isn't processed by the FFL originally up north but now supposedly out west. I'm confused. I ask who this FFL is, as I should know as the customer, they won't say. I ask to schedule a phone call to see so that we can resolve this matter (at this point I'm not 100% against resuming business with them); they won't answer. They fail to answer to address any of my concerns by email and comms cease.

So that's my first bad experience with an FFL.
