Project idea for anyone that wants it.

This may be of no interest to anyone, but I’ve had a notion bouncing around in my head for years and thought I’d put it somewhere.
Photography project idea: the life of a Christmas tree.

Every year in January (I am in England) I see Christmas trees littered about the place - upside down in parks, sitting next to bins for weeks, stuffed into random places…I even witnessed a neighbour throw theirs off a 3 story balcony - And I always think it would make in interesting photo-documentary to tell that story from beginning to end.

A Christmas tree takes 8-10 years to grow to full (sellable) height and then for about 2 weeks it is the most important accessory in our homes, we dress it up, focus our celebrations around it and then…throw it off the balcony, or whatever.

In a Xmas tree nursery there will be trees at all stages of growth, so it might be quite easy to tell the story from sapling, to full grown tree, to adored object, to disregarded rubbish/trash. As we are in the run-up to Christmas now, could be a good project for a student maybe? It has to be one of the things that epitomises our throw away culture.

Not a student or photographer myself but this pops in my head every year when I see Christmas trees on the side of the road and want to share it in case it’s of use to anyone out there.
