I feel really upset because I don’t like The Count of Monte Cristo
I’m close to finishing it, last 100 pages or so and frankly I feel really sad because everyone hails this as a masterpiece but it’s felt like such a slog since page 200. Everyone describes it as this swashbuckling adventure but it feels like the story stagnates every 2 seconds to tell me something I frankly do not care for. The characters feel flat, the plot cripples itself constantly with needless exposition and I feel like you could cut the entire book in half and you’d not miss out on anything.
Am I the only one? I want to like this book so bad but I just can’t.
